Disconnect hoist from air service

Remove hoist from overhead suspension

Inspect Chain Sprocket and Bearings

Ensure hoist is in normal suspended position

Verify that the hoist speed is set to factory settings

Check if the hoist speed needs adjustment

Describe the current hoist speed issues

Locate the regulator screw (Figure 2-4)

Turn the regulator screw slightly while operating hoist under load

Is the hoist speed within desired limits?

Chain Cleaning and Visual Inspection

Examine chain for gouges, nicks, weld splatter, corrosion or distorted links

Check bearing surfaces between links for wear

Chain Wear and Elongation Measurement

Measure and record length of unworn section of chain using vernier caliper

Measure and record length of worn section of chain using vernier caliper

Calculate and record the amount of wear by subtracting unworn measurement from worn measurement

Is the amount of wear greater than the allowable chain wear?

Hook Suspended Models Inspection

Push Trolley Suspended Models Inspection

Check condition of trolley parts and lug bracket

Lubrication for 3/4 and 1 Ton Hoists

Apply S.A.E. 60 oil on shank of upper hook where it enters suspension bracket

Lubrication for Single Line Hoists (1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 Ton)

Disassemble upper and lower hooks as described in 7-2.b.(4)

Grease thrust bearings with a good grade of bearing grease

Lubrication for Double Line Hoists (3/4 and 1 Ton)

Disassemble lower blocks as described in 7-2.b.(5)

Grease needle bearings for sprocket shaft and hook with a good grade of bearing grease
