Sleeve Bearing Maintenance
Section 3 – RENK Sleeve Bearing Replacement
Is the bearing liner worn, damaged, or does the bearing temperature monitoring indicate excessive temperature?
Disconnect all electrical power from the motor windings and accessory devices before disassembly of the motor
Remove the top and bottom bearing liners as stated in RENK Sleeve Bearing Removal Instructions
Ensure the shaft bearing shoulders and journal are free of nicks and burrs before replacing bearing
Dress shaft with emery cloth or stone as necessary
Clean the shaft and oil sump thoroughly
Apply a coating of oil to the bearing journal
Inspect the replacement bearing for nicks and damage
500 Hourly / 3 Monthly Motor Inspection
Section 3 – Periodic Inspection
Listen for any abnormal noises and check cause immediately
Check for any vibration and check cause immediately if excessive vibration is found
Check voltage and frequency variations
Check power supply total harmonic distortion
Periodic checks of phase, voltage, frequency, and power consumption of an operating motor are recommended
Check to see that air filters, when used, are in place and clean
Check all air passages and ensure that they are not blocked or clogged
Check for proper lubrication
6 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Lubrication
Section 3 – Anti-Friction Bearing (Grease Lubricated)
Check motor RPM
Verify standard conditions
Locate motor nameplate for relubrication intervals and volumes
Refer to motor nameplate for recommended lubricant
If no lubricant is shown, use Mobil Polyrex EM
Check alternate lubricants for specific operating temperatures
Ensure grease is clean and fresh from clean containers
Verify grease compatibility before mixing
Anti-Friction Bearing Maintenance
Section 3 – Anti-Friction Bearing Removal/Replacement
Ensure equipment connected to the motor shaft cannot cause shaft rotation
Disconnect all electrical power from the motor windings and accessory devices
Replace bearing when worn, oversize, or when TRG/bearing temperature monitoring indicates excessive wear
Remove the end shield
Remove the bearing using a conventional bearing puller
Protect the shaft center using a spacer block of bass or soft material
Clean and inspect all parts, removing all old grease
Ensure all shaft bearing shoulders and journals are free of nicks
1 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Lubrication
Section 3 – Anti-Friction Bearing (Grease Lubricated) – Extreme Conditions
Verify applicable motor conditions
Identify extreme conditions present
Ensure lubrication procedure follows the 6 Monthly task guidelines
Check relubrication intervals and volumes on the main motor nameplate
Ensure grease is free of dirt to avoid damage to motor bearings
Lubrication Procedure
Is the shaft stationary and motor warm?
Stay clear of rotating parts and electrical circuits if lubrication is done with motor running
