6 Monthly Motor Maintenance
Section 3 – Semi-Annual Maintenance − 6 months
Perform all quarterly inspections (see 3 Monthly Motor Periodic Inspection task)
Inspect and clean rotor ends, windings and fan blades (Open Motors only)
Check electrical connections for tightness and absence of corrosion
Section 3 – Winding Maintenance
WARNING — Solvents can be toxic and/or flammable — follow manufacturer's safety procedures and directions — failure to observe this precaution could result in bodily injury
CAUTION — Do not use solvents containing trichloroethane to clean interior or exterior of motor — damage may occur to paint and insulation systems
Disconnect and lockout the power source
Ensure no power is applied to the motor
1 Monthly Sleeve Bearing Maintenance
Section 1 – Storage (less than 6 months) – Horizontal Motors with Sleeve Bearings
Fill the bearing oil reservoir to the indicated level with the proper lubrication oil
Remove shaft blocking
Rotate the shaft 10-15 revolutions to redistribute the lubricant
Pour 4 to 6 ounces of oil onto the bearing liner before rotating the shaft
Ensure Duty Master motors with oil lubricated sleeve bearings are filled with oil containing a rust inhibitor
Air Filter Cleaning
Section 4 – Air Filters
Check air filters for high velocity air speeds up to 600 FPM (3 m/s) net face velocity
Measure resistance to air flow of a clean filter
Is the resistance to air flow of a clean filter within 0.15" W.G. (37 N/m² gauge)?
Check if the static air pressure drop across the filters reaches 0.50" W.G. (123.3 N/m² gauge)
Is the static air pressure drop across the filters at or above 0.50" W.G. (123.3 N/m² gauge)?
Check if the Differential Air Pressure Switch activates at 0.5" W.G. differential
Are the air filters in place and clean?
Clean or replace air filters if pressure drop reaches threshold or if Differential Air Pressure Switch activates
1 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Maintenance
Section 1 – Storage (less than 6 months)
Ensure grease lubricated bearings are not lubricated during storage
Verify Duty Master anti-friction bearing motors are shipped with the proper amount of grease in each bearing
Record the number of days since last shaft rotation
Rotate the shaft by hand
Replace protective packing and shaft shipping brace after rotating the shaft
Inspect the motor periodically and check insulation resistance
Is the storage location cold, damp, or humid?
Apply power to the motor's space heater if installed
1 Monthly Anti-Friction Bearing Lubrication
Section 3 – Anti-Friction Bearing (Grease Lubricated) – Extreme Conditions
Verify applicable conditions
Identify extreme conditions
Follow lubrication procedure as for the 6 Monthly task
Check relubrication intervals and volumes on the main motor nameplate
Ensure grease is free of dirt to avoid damage to motor bearings
