Smell near the floor for the gas odorant or any unusual odor.

Is there any suspicion of a gas leak?

Check if the odorant level of your gas is adequate.

Inspect boiler and system to ensure all gas piping is leak-tight.

Consult with your propane supplier regarding the installation of a gas leak detector.

Lock open flue transition damper

Refer to burner manual for start-up and service

Let burner advance to high fire and heat boiler to design conditions

Adjust burner for 12% (± ¼%) CO₂ for No. 2 fuel oil, 0 smoke

Adjust burner for 9 – 10% CO₂ natural gas; CO in flue gas not to exceed 50 ppm (0.01%)

Adjust damper assembly to ensure 0.1" W.C. positive pressure at test opening

Tighten screws to secure damper assembly in position

Plug test opening with 3/8" bolt provided with damper assembly

Adjust barometric draft control to design conditions

Ensure boiler is sealed gas-tight to prevent flue gas leakage.

Handle ceramic fiber and fiberglass materials with care.

Remove boiler jacket side and top panels.

Start burner and observe all sealing points.

Chalk mark any areas not gas-tight

Use silicone sealant on section flueways.

Ensure all newly installed steam boilers are cleaned to remove oil.

Verify that no petroleum-based cleaning or sealing compounds are used in the boiler system.

Remove 1½” plug from skim tapping tapping “A” and provide 1½” skim piping to floor drain.

Raise waterline to midpoint of skim piping.

Fire burner to maintain temperature below steaming rate during skimming process.

Feed in water to maintain water level and cycle burner to prevent rise in steam pressure.

Is the discharge clear after skimming for several hours?
