Motor Maintenance

Check mark

Warning: All repair services on motors for use in hazardous areas must be performed by qualified personnel and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Check mark

Motor disconnected from the power supply and is completely stopped?

Check mark

Motor terminals inside the terminal box free of dangerous voltages?

Check mark

Motor windings used as space heaters free of dangerous voltages?

Check mark

Motor terminals free of dangerous voltages when driven by a frequency inverter even when the motor is completely stopped?

Check mark

Enclosure surface cooled to ambient temperature before opening the terminal box and/or disassembling the motor?

Check mark

Record installation conditions such as terminal connection diagram and alignment or leveling conditions

Check mark

Motor disassembled carefully without scratching machined surfaces or damaging threads?

Check mark

Motor assembled on a flat surface ensuring a stable support base?

Insulation Resistance Measurement

Check mark

Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!

Check mark

The machine must be in a cold state and disconnected from the power supply.

Check mark

The insulation resistance must be measured in a safe environment.

Check mark

Is the machine in a cold state and disconnected from the power supply?

Check mark

Is the environment safe for insulation resistance measurement?

Check mark

It is recommended to insulate and test each phase separately.

Check mark

Is each phase insulated and tested separately?

Check mark

During the test of one phase, the other phases must be grounded.

Check mark

Are the other phases grounded during the test of one phase?

Run this procedureArrow right

Motor Inspection

Check mark

Visual inspection of the motor and coupling

Check mark

Check for abnormal noises, vibrations, excessive heating, wear signs, misalignment or damaged parts

Check mark

Upload a photo of the damaged parts

Check mark

Measure the insulation resistance

Check mark

Motor enclosure cleaned

Check mark

Oil spills and dust accumulation removed from the motor frame surface

Check mark

Motor cleaned carefully to prevent electrostatic discharge

Check mark

Cooling fan condition checked and air inlet & outlet openings cleaned

Check mark

Condition of the seals checked and replaced if required

Run this procedureArrow right

Motor Lubrication

Check mark

Warning: Proper lubrication plays a vital role in motor performance

Check mark

Only use the grease or oil types, amounts and lubrication intervals recommended for the bearings

Check mark

Lubrication procedures must be carried out according to the type of lubricant (oil or grease)

Check mark

The grease and oil disposal should be made in compliance with applicable laws in each country

Check mark

Excess grease causes bearing overheating, resulting in bearing failure

Check mark

For each increment of 15 °C above the room temperature, the relubrication intervals given in the Table must be halved

Check mark

The relubrication interval of motors designed for horizontal mounting but installed vertically (with WEG authorization) must be halved

Check mark

For special applications such as high and low temperatures, aggressive environments, or driven by frequency inverter (VFD), contact WEG about the required amount of grease and relubrication intervals

Check mark

Motor disassembly must be carried out as specified in Item 8.3

Run this procedureArrow right
