Check the refrigeration system for leaks with a suitable leak detector

Enter the oil pressure readings

Review the microprocessor log and log sheets

Check refrigerant levels in vessels

Verify components of the shaft seal assembly

Remove bolts securing shaft seal housing to compressor

Insert bolts into threaded jacking holes to assist in removing shaft seal housing

Remove mating ring from compressor shaft

Remove oil seal from shaft seal housing

Tap out cup assembly from the back side of shaft seal housing using a brass drift and hammer

Ensure adequate ventilation and refrigerant vapor detectors are in place as per ASHRAE standards.

Wear rubber gloves and a face shield to avoid skin contact with condensate or oil.

Use appropriate lifting devices and ensure they are capable of lifting the weight of the component.

Install lifting eyes on oil separator manhole cover, if required.

Secure appropriate lifting device to oil separator manhole cover.

Remove all bolts except top four bolts securing oil separator manhole cover to oil separator vessel.

Open any other valves that may trap liquids to prevent serious injury and/or damage to equipment.

Follow local lock-out/tag-out procedure.

Ensure compressors are depressurized before attempting any work.

Shut down the compressor unit, refer to Stopping/Restarting procedure in Section 4.

Turn disconnect switches to the OFF position for the compressor unit and oil pump motor starter, if equipped.

Allow compressor, motor, and surrounding components to cool prior to servicing.

Disconnect connectors from actuator.

Open any other valves that may trap liquids to prevent serious injury and/or damage to equipment.

Follow local lock-out/tag-out procedure.

Removal of Type C Sure-Flex Coupling

Shut down the compressor unit, refer to Stopping/ Restarting procedure in Section 4.

Turn disconnect switches to the OFF position for the compressor unit and oil pump motor starter, if equipped.

Allow compressor, motor and surrounding components to cool prior to servicing.

Mark locations of hubs prior to removal.
