Remove the coupling guard and center member from the coupling.

Attach a dial indicator to the compressor frame and zero the indicator.

Measure the movement by pushing the coupling towards the motor using a lever arm and fulcrum.

Re-zero the indicator and measure the movement by pushing the input shaft towards the compressor.

Add both readings to determine the total bearing float, which should not exceed 0.003 inches.
