Inspection of Slide Valve Assemblies

Prepare the compressor for servicing

Remove the gate rotor access covers and inspect the slide valve carriage

Remove the gate rotor support to check the clearance of the slide valve clamps

Inspect the clearance between capacity and volume slide valve clamps and slide valve carriage

Contact the factory if slide valves are worn beyond tolerances

Removal of Slide Valve Carriage Assemblies

Prepare the compressor for servicing

Determine which gate rotor support needs to be removed

Gate Rotor Thrust Bearing Removal

Remove gate rotor bearing housing

Removal of Thrust Bearings on VSG Units

Remove bolts from the clamping ring

Remove thrust bearing clamping ring

Remove thrust bearings from housing

Removal of Thrust Bearings on VSSG Units

Remove retaining ring from gate rotor support

Ensure the unit is shut down and de-pressurized before starting the procedure.

Main Rotor Bearing Float Measurement

Remove the coupling guard and center member from the coupling.

Attach a dial indicator to the compressor frame and zero the indicator.

Measure the movement by pushing the coupling towards the motor using a lever arm and fulcrum.

Re-zero the indicator and measure the movement by pushing the input shaft towards the compressor.

Add both readings to determine the total bearing float, which should not exceed 0.003 inches.

Gate Rotor Bearing Float Measurement

Remove the snap ring and washer from the gate rotor assembly

Lift gate rotor blade assembly off the gate rotor support

Check damper pin and bushing for excessive wear

Replace damper pin and bushing if necessary

Install damper pin bushing in gate rotor blade from the back side of the blade

Ensure the bushing is fully seated

Gate Rotor Roller Bearing Removal

Refer to section REMOVAL (All VSG)

Remove the snap ring (131) retaining the roller bearing in the bearing housing

Remove the roller bearing (125) from the bearing housing (112)

Use a bearing puller to remove the roller bearing race (125) from the gate rotor support (110)

Gate Rotor Roller Bearing Installation

Match part numbers on the inner and outer race and press the bearing race onto the gate rotor support

Install the outer bearing into the bearing housing ensuring numbers match the inner race

Install the snap ring retainer in the housing with the bevel facing away from the roller bearing
