Ensure the pump is turned off and cooled down

Gather necessary tools and materials, including a handgun and multi-purpose grease, NLGI #2

Apply external lubrication slowly with a handgun to all lubrication fittings

Ensure not to over-grease the fittings

Is the application environment temperature very high or low?

Clean any excess grease from the fittings

Ensure all pressure in the chamber is vented through appropriate openings.

Lock out or make non-operational the driving means (motor, turbine, engine, etc.).

Identify the liquid handled by the pump and obtain the material safety data sheet (MSDS).

Allow pump to cool before starting disassembly.

Mark the head and casing for proper reassembly.

Remove the head from the pump, keeping the relief valve attached if present.
