Hourly Maintenance
Lubrication
Lubricate axle pivot pins, steering spindles, and tie rods with several shots of grease specified on page 83 (10 fittings)
Grease front wheel bearings daily, only if tractor has been in extremely wet conditions. Continue 10 hour lubrication until wheel bearings can be cleaned and repacked. Use grease specified on page 84
Lubricate wide-swing drawbar rollers with several shots of grease specified on page 83
Lubricate fittings on ends of rear axles and radius rod pivot grease fitting on Hi-Crop tractors with several shots of grease with grease specified on page 83
Fuel System Check
Check fuel pump sediment bowl and fuel filters for sediment or water. If any is present, drain it out and bleed air from lines. See page 105
Coolant Check
Remove radiator cap and check coolant. Level should be 1-1/2-in. (38 mm) above the baffle located in the radiator top tank. Add clean water or antifreeze as needed
Hourly Maintenance
Drain water from fuel tank sump
Check air intake system for leaks
Replace transmission-hydraulic system filter elements
Check engine idle speeds
Lubricate rear axles
Have your John Deere dealer check engine valve clearance
Change engine coolant conditioner-filter
Sign off on the hourly maintenance
As required Maintenance
Service air cleaner indicator light glowing?
If the indicator light is glowing or suspected to be defective, replace the elements. Refer to page 100 for instructions.
Fuel filter elements replaced?
Close shut-off valve on bottom of fuel tank before removing filters. Replace both filter elements. Open fuel shut-off valve, and pump hand primer to bleed air from filters.
Filter retaining clip removed?
To remove filter retaining clip, push top inward enough to lift tab.
Sign off on the as required maintenance
Hourly Maintenance
Warning: This maintenance check requires trained personnel with PPE!
John Deere dealer cleaned filter in main hydraulic pump
Front wheel bearings disassembled, cleaned, packed with grease, and reassembled
Final drive housing drain plugs removed and oil drained out on Hi-Crop tractors
Amount of gear lubricant added to each housing
Drain plug removed from transmission case and oil drained out
Hydraulic pump suction screen removed, washed, dried, and reinstalled
Amount of transmission-hydraulic oil added to the system
Oil level checked after operating tractor for five minutes
Hourly Maintenance
Replace transmission filter element on Quad-Range tractor
Check transmission-hydraulic system oil level
Wash breather filter inside filler cap
Check oil level in each final drive housing on Hi-Crop tractors
Service batteries
Replace engine oil filter and packing
Check tension of alternator and compressor belts
Inspect for loose bolts
Check brake accumulator
