Inspect the lens area of the mouse

Clean the lens with a cotton swab or Q-tip if smudged

Blow away debris from the lens area if present

Surface Check for Optical Mouse

Is the mouse being used on a surface with intricate patterns?

Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the computer

Rotate the drive bay assembly upward to gain access to the fan assembly

Disconnect the fan assembly cable from the system board

Note the location of the cable disconnected from the system board

Remove the front bezel by releasing the tab

Remove the plastic insert behind the bezel by releasing the tabs

Remove the fan assembly by releasing the tabs

Install the new fan assembly and connect the fan cable to the system board

Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the computer

Rotate the drive bay assembly upward to gain access to the cable connections

Locate the power supply assembly

Note the routing of the power supply cables

Has the computer been turned on for a few minutes if it was off for a long period?

Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the computer.

Rotate the drive bay assembly upward to gain access to the microprocessor.

Remove the air baffle from the microprocessor heat sink.

Completely loosen the screw in each of the two clamps that secure the microprocessor heat sink.

Has the computer been turned on recently?

Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the computer

Rotate the drive bay assembly upward to gain access to the system board

Remove the PCI riser card assembly along with any adapters
