Inspect the lens area for issues

Clean the lens with a cotton swab or Q-tip if smudged

Blow away debris from the lens area if present

Check if the mouse surface has intricate patterns

Remove the ball from the mouse by unlocking the retainer ring

Wash the ball in warm, soapy water and dry it

Rotate the drive bay assembly upward to gain access to the fan assembly

Disconnect the fan assembly cable from the system board

Remove the front bezel by releasing the tab

Has the computer been turned on recently to soften the thermal grease?

Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord.

Open the cover and rotate the drive bay assembly upward.

Remove the air baffle from the microprocessor heat sink.

Loosen the screws on the clamps securing the microprocessor heat sink.

Twist the heat sink to break the grease seal and remove it.

Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the computer

Locate the battery on the system board

Remove the PCI riser and PCI adapters that impede access to the battery

Has the computer been turned off for a long period of time?

Turn on the computer for a few minutes to soften the thermal grease if necessary

Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and from the computer

Rotate the drive bay assembly upward to gain access to the system board

Remove the PCI riser card assembly along with any adapters
