Pasteurizers and Other Heaters Cleaning

Ensure all plates and gaskets are properly installed

Verify that the media side to be tested is closed

Ensure the other media side is open to the atmosphere

Enter the operating pressure of the unit

Is the operating pressure within the design pressure limit as stated on the name plate?

Perform pressure test on the closed media side

Did the pressure test confirm internal and external tightness?

Ensure the heat exchanger is turned off and cooled down

Gather cleaning materials: soft brush, 10% nitric acid, and water

Clean the plates with a soft brush and 10% nitric acid

Rinse the plates thoroughly with water

Ensure the following acids are NOT used

Close the valves and isolate the heat exchanger

Has the heat exchanger cooled down to about 40 °C (100 °F)?

Remove the protective sheets, if any

Dismantle pipes from the pressure plate and the connections plate(s)

Inspect and clean the sliding surfaces of the carrying bar

Mark the plate assembly with a diagonal line

Preparation of Cleaning Solutions

Dissolve 1 kg of NaOH in 100 litres of water or mix 2.2 litres of 33% NaOH solution in 100 litres of water.

Mix 0.7 litres of 53% HNO3 in 100 litres of water.

Ensure that water used has less than 300 ppm Cl ions.

Is the CIP flow rate at least the same as the production flow rate?
