Ensure all plates and gaskets are properly installed

Verify that the media side to be tested is closed

Ensure the other media side is open to the atmosphere

Enter the operating pressure of the unit

Is the pressure below the design pressure as stated on the name plate?

Consulted with local office/representative for advice on pressure testing procedure

Pasteurizers and Other Heaters Cleaning

Ensure the heat exchanger is turned off and cooled down

Gather cleaning materials: soft brush, 10% nitric acid, and water

Clean the plates with a soft brush and 10% nitric acid

Rinse the plates thoroughly with water

Ensure the following acids are NOT used

Preparation of Cleaning Solutions

Dissolve 1 kg of NaOH in 100 litres of water for lye solution

Mix 2.2 litres of 33% NaOH solution in 100 litres of water for lye solution

Mix 0.7 litres of 53% HNO3 in 100 litres of water for acid solution

Ensure water used has less than 300 ppm Cl ions
