The intermediate DC circuit of the drive contains several electrolytic capacitors.

Operating time, load, and surrounding air temperature have an effect on the life of the capacitors.

Capacitor life can be extended by decreasing the surrounding air temperature.

Capacitor failure is usually followed by damage to the unit and an input cable fuse failure, or a fault trip.

If you think that any capacitors in the drive have failed, contact ABB.

The capacitors must be reformed if the drive has not been powered (either in storage or unused) for a year or more.

The manufacturing date is on the type designation label.

Check capacitor reforming for spare modules and spare capacitors

Check quality of supply voltage

Inspect dustiness, corrosion or temperature

Inspect IP66 (UL Type 4X) frames R1..R3: Drive cover and gasket assembly

Clearly identify the work location and equipment.

Disconnect all possible voltage sources. Make sure that re-connection is not possible. Lock out and tag out.

Protect any other energized parts in the work location against contact.

Are all components within their mission time?

If any component is beyond its mission time, proceed with the following steps

Choose the type of service done

Select the components that have been renewed

Enter the age of the oldest component in the circuit

Did the safety function pass the post-replacement test?

Sign off on the safety components replacement

Before you begin any installation or maintenance work, follow these steps:

Identify the work location and equipment

Disconnect all possible voltage sources and ensure re-connection is not possible

Protect any other energized parts in the work location against contact

Take special precautions when close to bare conductors

Measure that the installation is de-energized using a quality voltage tester

Install temporary grounding as required by the local regulations

Ask for a permit to work from the person in control of the electrical installation work
