Upload a photo of drawing 5050–33–1 for part reference

Fasteners, nuts and spacers removed and Fowler covers set aside

Set screws removed from center of yokes

Pivot bolts, flat washers and hex nuts removed from gas cylinders

Fowler adjusted as per requirement

Fowler adjustment checked and confirmed

Washers and hex nuts replaced to secure the pivot bolts

Pump the litter up to full height

Remove both the large nuts (A) from the top of the pneumatic cylinder using two 17 mm. wrenches

Remove the nut (B) and bolt (C) from the bottom of the cylinder using a 5/16” hex Allen wrench and an 11/16” open end wrench

Raise the Fowler to 90 and remove the cylinder

Press down on the release pin on the replacement cylinder to fully extend the cylinder

Put the large nut on the new cylinder and screw it down securely

Install the nut (B) and bolt (C) on the bottom of the cylinder using a 5/16” hex Allen wrench and an 11/16” open end wrench

Pump the stretcher litter up to full height

Move the Fowler to 70 or higher

Loosen the two nuts (A) on the adjustment screw (B) using (2) 3/8” wrenches

Repeat for the other side of the Fowler

Raise the Fowler to the full up position

Pull down on both sides of the Fowler, squeeze both release handles and verify both pneumatic cylinders release equally

Two Phillips head screws on the handle linkage loosened

Handle tension spring on the patient’s left side released

Adjusted handles to have a 3/4” gap between the outer Fowler frame and the handle

Two screws on the handle linkage bar tightened and spring reattached

It may be necessary to adjust the pneumatic cylinders (see page 25)

Proper Fowler operation verified before returning the stretcher to service

Warning: This procedure requires two people to safely perform.

Apply the Stretcher Chair brakes. Raise the litter to full up. Raise the Fowler and the siderails.

Use a 3/8” wrench to remove the bolts in the litter support tubes above the black bellows on both ends of the litter.

With the assistance of another person, lift the litter off the base and set it aside, taking care not to damage the leg section linkages and other litter components.

Push down on the jack actuator to put the jack in the full down position.

Lift off the plastic base hood, separating the Velcro holding it to the base frame.

Using a 13/16” wrench, remove the adjustable P.C. valve.

Check for any contaminants in the valve as well as the jack base.

Install a new P.C. valve. Moisten the O–ring seal with a little hydraulic fluid to ensure a good seal.
