Inspection / maintenance of the BMG61/122 brake

Ensure BMG61/122 brakes with encoder mounting are only used as a holding brake

Ensure maintenance work on the BMG61/122 brake with encoder mounting is only performed by SEW-EURODRIVE

BMG61/122 brake without encoder mounting — set the working air gap

Isolate the motor and brake from the supply, safeguarding them against unintentional power-up

Remove the forced cooling fan, if installed, and the flange cover or fan guard [27]

Push the rubber sealing collar aside [5], releasing the clamping strap to do this if necessary, and extract the abraded matter

Measure the brake discs [6], [10] and check if the brake disc is < 12 mm

Check the condition of the anticorrosion coating on the drive

Is the anticorrosion coating intact?

Touch up the anticorrosion coating if minor scratches are present

Renew the anticorrosion coating if significant wear or corrosion is present

8.2 Preliminary work for motor and brake maintenance

Ensure motor and brake are isolated from power supply

Removing the EV1. incremental encoder / AV1H absolute encoder

Remove the protective canopy [361]

Remove forced cooling fan if fitted

Unscrew screw [366] from adapter flange and remove cover plate [369]

Unscrew clamping hub connection of the coupling

Loosen retaining screws [232] and turn conical spring washers [251] outwards

Remove encoder [220] together with coupling [233]

Altering the blocking direction on motors with a backstop

Note the direction of rotation and number of stages

Operate the backstop in the blocking direction at half motor voltage for checking purposes

Isolate the motor from the supply

Remove fan guard and fan, unscrew hexagon socket head cap screws

Remove the V-ring and sealing flange with felt ring, collect grease for subsequent use

Remove the circlip; for DV132M-160M, also remove the equalizing rings

Pull the carrier and wedge element train completely off, turn them by 180° and press them back on
