Turn off the gas at the manual gas valve, usually located immediately below the water heater.

Turn off the incoming water supply at the isolation valve immediately below the water heater or by turning off the water supply to the building.

Ensure the appliance area is clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.

Turn off and disconnect electrical power. Allow to cool.

Close the water shut off valves. Remove and clean the water inlet filter.

Remove the front panel by removing 4 screws.
