Lever Chain Hoist Inspection

Check mark

- On hoists in continuous service, frequent inspection should be made at the beginning of each shift. In addition, visual inspections should be conducted during regular service for any damage or evidence of malfunction.

Check mark

1. Operations.

Check mark

• Check for visual signs or abnormal noises which could indicate a potential problem.

Check mark

• Do not operate a hoist unless the chain feeds through the hoist and hook block smoothly.

Check mark

• Listen for "clicking" , binding or malfunctioning. The clicking sound of the pawl on the ratchet gear is normal when a load is being raised. If chain binds, jumps, or is excessively noisy, clean and lubricate the chain. If problem persists, the chain and load sheave may have to be replaced.

Check mark

• Do not operate the hoist until all problems have been corrected.

Check mark

2. Hooks.

Check mark

• Check for wear or damage, increased throat width, bent shank or twisting of the hook.

Check mark

• Check hooks swivel freely. If hook latch snaps past tip of hook, the hook is sprung and must be replaced.

1 Weekly Lever Chain Hoist Lubrication

Check mark

WARNING! Failure to maintain clean and well lubricated load chain may result in chain failure causing injury, death or substantial property damage.

Check mark

Lubricate each link of the load chain weekly, or more frequently, depending on severity of service. Apply new lubricant over existing layer.

Check mark

In severe applications or corrosive environments, lubricate more frequently than normal.

Check mark

Lubricate hook and hook latch pivot points with the same lubricant used on the load chain.

Check mark

To remove rust or abrasive dust build-up, clean chain with acid free solvent. After cleaning, lubricate the chain.

Check mark

Use Ingersoll Rand LUBRI-LINK-GREEN® or an ISO VG220 to 320 (SAE 50W to 90 EP) oil.
