Check the tightness of all hold-down bolts before checking the alignment.

Move the motor if re-alignment is necessary.

Final alignment achieved when requirements are met with both pump and motor hold down bolts tight.

Recheck both alignments after making adjustments.

Enter Total Indicator Reading for parallel alignment.

Is the parallel alignment within .005"?

Ensure all mechanical seal components are in good condition

Install the mechanical seal stationary seat in the seal housing using soapy water as a lubricant

Install the mechanical seal spring retainer, spring, and rotary assembly on the shaft sleeve using soapy water to lubricate

Slide the shaft sleeve over the pump shaft ensuring a new shaft sleeve o-ring is used

Verify the correct o-ring is used for the shaft sleeve (round cross-section)

Verify the correct o-ring is used for the impeller washer (square cross-section)

Remove wear ring if excessively worn

Is the wear ring being replaced?

Ensure no lubricants are used on the metal-to-metal fit when pressing in the replacement wear ring

Ensure the following conditions are met before starting the pump

Make a complete check after unit is run under operating conditions and temperature has stabilized

Ensure the pump is not operated at or near zero flow

Verify that rotating parts have sufficient liquid to prevent scoring or seizing

Turn off electrical power and lockout system

Drain system and flush if necessary

Remove motor hold-down bolts or disconnect coupling and remove spacer

Remove casing bolts and pump hold-down bolts

Remove motor and rotating element from casing

Unscrew impeller bolt with a socket wrench

Pry off impeller using two pry bars (180º apart)
