Electronic Air Cleaner Inspection
Pre-Inspection Setup
Ensure the air cleaner is installed in the correct position (not with the access door facing down).
Verify the air cleaner is located in the return air duct next to the blower compartment.

Heating Performance Test
Preparation
Ensure all other gas appliances are turned off
Ensure the heating cycle has been in operation for at least fifteen minutes
Gas Meter Clocking
Record the time in seconds for one complete revolution of the cubic foot dial on the gas meter
Enter the calorific value of the gas being used (BTU per cubic foot)
BTU Input Calculation
Calculate the cubic feet of gas consumed per hour using the gas rate chart
Calculate the BTU input by multiplying the cubic feet of gas consumed per hour by the calorific value of the gas
Burner Visual Check

Turn the furnace on at the thermostat
Wait a few minutes for dust to settle
Check the burner flames for the following characteristics
Are the flames stable, quiet, soft and blue with slightly orange tips?
Are the flames extending directly outward from the burner ports without curling downward, floating or lifting off the ports?
Pressure Regulator Adjustment
Safety Precautions
Connect a manometer to the outlet tap at the gas valve before adjusting the pressure regulator.
Pressure Regulator Adjustment
Measure the current manifold pressure.
Is the manifold pressure within the acceptable range of ±3 inches water column from 3.5 inches for natural gas or 10 inches for propane gas?
Adjust the pressure regulator: Turn clockwise to increase pressure and counterclockwise to decrease pressure.
Propane Gas Specific Instructions
Ensure no unit gas valve regulator is used for propane gas.
Adjust the second stage supply line pressure regulator to 10 inches water column with all other gas consuming appliances running.

Disconnect all power before servicing or installing the unit.

Ignitor Handling Precautions
Is the ignitor being handled by a qualified servicer?
