Stand away from the alarm when the horn is sounding to protect your hearing

Press and hold the test button on the alarm unit until the alarm sounds

Did the alarm sound with a loud, repeating horn pattern?

Is the unit receiving power if the alarm did not sound?

Replace the alarm if it fails to sound during the test

Replace the battery immediately if the unit starts chirping

Is the Smoke Alarm contaminated by excessive dirt, dust, or grime?

Replace the unit if it cannot be cleaned to avoid unwanted alarms

Does the unit sound frequent unwanted alarms?

Relocate the unit if it sounds frequent unwanted alarms

Ensure the following maintenance tasks are performed

Gently vacuum the outside of the Smoke Alarm using a soft brush attachment

Test the Smoke Alarm after cleaning

Avoid using water, cleaners, or solvents during cleaning
