Battery Maintenance
Warning: Battery maintenance requires trained personnel with PPE!
Truck is OFF and all controls are in neutral
Steering wheel tilted up, storage tray removed, and seat moved towards the rear
Seat deck raised to the open position and gas struts are working properly
Full side cover or short battery retainer removed
Correct size and weight battery used
Roller stand used for battery installation or removal is the same height as the rollers in the truck's battery compartment and at least as long as the battery
Nothing metal touched the top of the cells
Approved spreader bar used to move a battery
1 Daily Truck Check
Battery is charged
Battery retainer is properly installed
All wheels are in good condition
Both forks are secure and not bent, cracked or badly worn
Lift chains and anchors for damage and corrosion
Lift chains are well lubricated
The load backrest is in place and secure, when required
No signs of leaks under the truck
Seat belt is not worn out
1 Daily Battery Check
Gas struts are working properly and holding the seat deck securely in the open position
For flooded lead acid batteries, battery water level is checked
Warning: Don't use an open flame to check the battery. Be sure vent caps are in place
Battery cables and connectors are inspected for damage or corrosion
Sign off on the daily battery check
Lead Acid Battery Maintenance
BEFORE CHARGING POWER SOURCES: Read the instructions for the charger and power source. Make sure that the charger has the correct voltage and amperage for the power source. Only charge a power source in an authorized area.
Turn off your truck
Unplug the power source connector from the truck
Follow the charging instructions from the power source manufacturer
When charging is complete, unplug the charger and plug the power source connector into the truck
AVOID DAMAGING THE TRUCK AND BATTERY CHARGER: Make sure that the battery charger is plugged into the battery connector, not the truck connector
AVOID DAMAGING THE BATTERY: Batteries that are not properly maintained will fail prematurely. Always follow the battery manufacturer’s instructions.
