Lead Acid Battery Maintenance
- Charge a Flooded Lead Acid Battey
1. Turn off your truck
2. Unplug the power source connector from the truck
3. Follow the charging instructions from the power source manufacturer
When charging is complete, unplug the charger and plug the power source connector into the truck
BEFORE CHARGING POWER SOURCES:
• Read the instructions for the charger and power source
• Make sure that the charger has the correct voltage and amperage for the power source
• Only charge a power source in an authorized area

Battery is charged
Battery retainer is properly installed
All wheels are in good condition
Both forks are secure and not bent, cracked or badly worn
Lift chains and anchors for damage and corrosion
Lift chains are well lubricated
The load backrest is in place and secure, when required
No signs of leaks under the truck
Seat belt is not worn out
1 Daily Truck Test
Test drive in an uncongested area
Adjust operator seat and steering wheel
Fasten your seat belt
Try all the hydraulic functions
Check that the steering is easy and smooth
Drive the truck slowly in both directions
Drive through the full speed range in both forward and reverse
Check braking and plugging distances in forward and reverse
Is the braking distance acceptable?
Battery Maintenance
- Change Batteries
WHEN YOU INSTALL OR CHANGE BATTERIES:
Flooded Lead Acid Batteries 1. Turn the truck OFF. Check that all controls are in neutral. Disconnect the battery
2. Tilt the steering wheel up, remove the storage tray (if present), and move the seat towards the rear
Raise the seat deck to the open position. Note: A seat deck can fall. Make certain the gas struts are working properly and will hold the seat deck securely in the open position
3. Remove the full side cover or short battery retainer
4. Make certain you use the correct size and weight battery. Never operate a truck that has an underweight or undersized battery installed
5. If you use a roller stand to install or remove a battery, make sure the roller stand is the same height as the rollers in your truck's battery compartment. Also make sure the roller stand is at least as long as the battery
6. Never let anything metal touch the top of the cells

Gas struts working properly and holding the seat deck securely in the open position
For flooded lead acid batteries, battery water level checked
Don't use an open flame to check the battery. Be sure vent caps are in place
Battery cables and connectors inspected for damage or corrosion
Sign off on the daily battery check
