Battery Maintenance
1. DO NOT ADD ACID TO A BATTERY. Only a qualified battery representative should determine if this is necessary.
2. Lift only with a properly constructed lifting device which will not put side pressure on the battery.
3. Check battery electrolyte level before each charge and add distilled water, if necessary. Do not overfill. Overfilling causes loss of electro-lyte. The electrolyte level should be slightly below the lower lip of the filling vent hole.
4. Keep battery clean and dry. Wash down as required.
5. Do not over-charge battery.
6. Keep battery records as indicated above.
DANGER! Explosive gas is always present around batteries, especially when they are being charged. No smoking must be allowed in the charging area. Do not check the battery electrolyte level with an open flame. Do not allow open flame, sparks, or electric arcs in the battery charging area.
DANGER! Keep all tools and other metal objects away from the battery terminals. They will cause short circuits and can cause the battery to explod. 7. Persons maintaining storage batteries must wear protective clothing such as face shields, long shirt sleeves and gauntlet gloves.
8. When charging batteries, the vent caps must be kept in place to avoid electrolyte spray. Care must be taken to assure that vent caps are functioning. The vent cap holes must be open to allow the battery to breathe. The battery cover must be removed to dissipate heat and explosive gas.
