Are the breaker contact points worn out?

Describe the wear and adjustment of the breaker contact points

Is the color of the contact points light gray?

If not, describe the color and possible causes

Are the contact point surfaces blue?

If yes, describe the possible causes

Battery terminals and cables are clean and free from corrosion

Describe the condition of the battery tray, holdown terminals and cable ends

Is the battery case cracked or leaking?

Top sealing compound of the battery is intact and not leaking

Are the vent holes in the filler caps open?

Electrolyte level is sufficient and plates are not exposed

Is the water consumption approximately 1 oz. every 25 hours or weekly?

Sign off on the tractor inspection

Warning: Ensure the battery is disconnected from the tractor before proceeding

Initial voltage reading from the volt meter

Connect a load equal to 3 times the amp hour rating of the battery

Voltage reading after 15 seconds

Is the voltage reading less than 9.5 volts?

If the voltage reading is less than 9.5 volts, the battery should be replaced

Sign off on the battery bench load test

NOTE: On Spark Ignition engines remove the center coil wire to prevent engine from starting

Connect a volt meter (12 volt) between the positive and negative terminals of the battery, Figure F-5

Crank the engine for 15 seconds and record voltage

Connect voltmeter (12 volt) between the starter generator 'A' terminal and ground on starter generator frame, Figure F-5

Crank the engine and record voltage

If voltage is not the same or varies more than .5 volt, check the battery cables, clean and tighten connections

Sign off on the battery cranking voltage test

Ensure the drive belt is adjusted properly.

Disconnect all cables and wires to generator.

Connect ammeter and variable resistance in series between the 'A' terminal and generator frame.

Connect voltmeter from the 'A' terminal to the frame.

Install jumper lead from the 'F' terminal to the frame.

Enter the RPM at which the unit is driven.

Enter the voltage reading from the voltmeter.

Enter the amperage reading from the ammeter.

Is the ammeter reading lower than specified amperage?
