If oil stays clean and acid-free, the system is clean.

Does oil show signs of contamination?

If oil shows signs of contamination, change oil, change filter-drier, and clean suction strainer.

Is filter-drier or suction strainer dirty or discolored?

If filter-drier or suction strainer is dirty or discolored, repeat this step until system is cleaned.

Sign off on the daily compressor maintenance

Warning: This inspection requires trained personnel with PPE!

After 2 to 4 hours of operation, inspect compressor oil for discoloration and/or acidity.

Does the oil show signs of contamination?

If oil shows signs of contamination, replace oil and filter-driers and clean the suction strainer.

NOTE: When testing for moisture and acidity, be sure the test kit used is appropriate for the refrigerant (CFC, HCFC, or HFC) and the oil (mineral, alkylbenzene, or POE) in the system.

Select the type of refrigerant used

Carrier’s Total Test Kit is accurate for CFC and HCFC air-conditioning applications. If used with POE oils, Total Test Kit will indicate acid, but is not an accurate indicator of moisture.

Sign off on the initial 2 hours motor inspection

Is the application high compression ratio?

If the application is not high compression ratio, stop the procedure

Are new fiber gaskets installed?

If new fiber gaskets are not installed, stop the procedure

Does the compressor have metal core gaskets?

If the compressor has metal core gaskets, stop the procedure

Enter the current hold-down torque of the gear cap screws

Did the gear cap screws maintain hold-down torque after 24 hours?

Does the oil pump require replacement?

Does the pump end bearing require replacement?

Enter the part number for replacement

Note: The above pump end bearing head packages include a bearing head with the high side oil safety switch connection. This pump is recommended for all CFC, HCFC, and HFC refrigeration applications.

Sign off on the replacement procedure

REMOVE, INSPECT AND REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD AND VALVE PLATE ASSEMBLY

Observe suction and discharge pressure equalization.

Check if valves are leaking or a gasket is blown.

Check if there is an indication of loss of capacity and discharge valves are functioning properly.

Disassemble cylinder heads by removing cylinder head bolts.

Separate the cylinder head from the valve plate.

Inspect cylinder heads for warping, cracking, or damage to gasket surfaces.
