Preparation
Turn OFF electric supply to the water heater
Shut OFF the water supply and open a nearby hot water faucet to depressurize the water tank
Draining the Tank
Drain the tank according to the Draining and Flushing procedures
Close the drain valve after draining

DANGER! Burn hazard. Keep clear of drain valve discharge outlet.

Ensure the area around the drain valve is clear of obstructions.
Is the drain valve discharge outlet clear of personnel and equipment?
Open the drain valve.
