Oil Separator Coalescing Filter Replacement
Safety Precautions
Ensure adequate ventilation and refrigerant vapor detectors are in place as per ASHRAE standards.
Wear rubber gloves and a face shield when working with condensate or oil.
Use appropriate lifting devices and additional personnel for heavy components.
Removal
Isolate the compressor unit.
Install lifting eyes on oil separator manhole cover if required.
Secure appropriate lifting device to oil separator manhole cover.
Remove all bolts except top four bolts securing oil separator manhole cover to oil separator vessel.
1 Weekly Compressor Unit Maintenance
Check the refrigeration system for leaks with a suitable leak detector
Oil Pressure and Log Review
Enter the oil pressure readings
Review the microprocessor log and log sheets
Check refrigerant levels in vessels

Safety Precautions
Have all valves that may trap liquids been opened?
Has the local lock-out/tag-out procedure been followed?
Is the compressor depressurized?
Shutdown Procedure
Shut down the compressor unit as per Stopping/Restarting procedure in Section 4.
Turn disconnect switches to the OFF position for the compressor unit and oil pump motor starter, if equipped.
Allow compressor, motor, and surrounding components to cool prior to servicing.

Compressor Shaft Bearing Clearance Inspections
Check that all tools and safety equipment are in place
Ensure force applied does not exceed 300 to 500 lbs
Record maximum applied force calculation
Main Rotor Bearing Axial Clearance Inspection
Remove center member
Install and zero dial indicator on compressor frame
Record measurement when pushing coupling towards motor
Record measurement when pushing input shaft towards compressor
Compressor Shaft Seal Replacement
Shaft Seal Assembly
Verify components of the shaft seal
Removal
Remove bolts (281) securing shaft seal housing (218) to compressor
Insert two bolts (281) into threaded jacking holes to assist in removing shaft seal housing (218)
Remove mating ring (219C) from compressor shaft
Remove oil seal (230) from shaft seal housing (218)
Tap out cup assembly (219B) from the back side of shaft seal housing (218) using a brass drift and hammer
Remove O-ring (260)
