Monitor packing (13) for excessive leakage during operation
Check packing rings (13) for issues
Packing Replacement
Install 3 rings of packing (13)
Is lantern ring (29) furnished?
Install 2 rings of packing in adapter cavity if lantern ring is furnished
Pump Disassembly
Pump Removal
Obtain a set of spare parts
Shut down pump

Ensure only the original liquid is pumped unless authorized by Peerless Pump
Pump Disassembly - Mechanical Seal Type
Remove any seal piping between pump discharge and stuffing box of adapter
Shaft Sleeve Wear Check
Inspection
Inspect shaft sleeves for excessive wear
Replace sleeves that are worn
Use care not to scratch the sleeve surface when removing shaft sleeve
Replace shaft sleeve O-ring at each disassembly
Pump Check
Reassembly — Post-assembly checks
Rotate shaft by hand after installing impeller lock screw (26) to check for free movement
Rotate shaft by hand after seating adapter (71) to check for no binding or hang-up
Tighten gland bolts (17B) on packed pump to limit leakage after pump is running
Verify seal piping (tubing) is installed between pump discharge and stuffing box of adapter if used
Verify casing cap screws are tightened uniformly in a star pattern to correct torque
Pump Inspection
Inspection
Visually inspect and replace parts that are damaged and affecting the serviceability or sealing
Emphasize inspection of mating parts having relative motion — casing rings, for example
Check O-rings, gaskets, and seals for shrinkage, cracks, nicks or tears
Check packing rings for excessive compression, fraying or shredding, embedded particles (dirt or metal) — replace if defective in any way
Examine impeller passages for cracks, dents, gouges or embedded material
Inspect shaft sleeves (14) for excessive wear — replace sleeves that are worn
Inspect lapped surfaces of sealing washer and floating seat for chipping, gouges, nicks, scratches or other damage — these surfaces must be free from any defect — if lapped surfaces are damaged, replace the entire seal
