Adjust gland nuts for a leakage rate of 1 to 2 drops per second

Has the packing seated and adjusted to the operating temperature after 10 to 15 minutes?

Is there excessive leakage from the stuffing box after 15 minutes of operation?

Tighten the gland nuts until a desired leakage rate is obtained

Ensure gland nuts are not tightened to zero leakage

Check all components for wear and tear

Pack the bearings with lubricant before assembly

Ensure lubricant completely covers the faces of the bearing races

Lubricate the packing rings during assembly

Add additional grease through the zerk fitting after assembly

Measure the rotor crest-to-crest diameter

Enter the standard crest-to-crest diameter value for comparison

Is the measured diameter within 0.010” (.25mm) of the standard value and free of deep nicks, gouges, or other surface defects?

Is the crest-to-crest diameter between 0.011” (.28mm) and 0.050” (1.3mm) under the standard value?

Check the following conditions for rotor renewal by chrome plating

Remove the gland nuts and packing gland from the stuffing box.

Use packing extractors to remove the first two packing rings, the lantern rings, and the last two packing rings.

Inspect the drive shaft for excessive wear or grooves.

Is the drive shaft worn or grooved?

Lubricate the 4 new packing rings with packing grease if the drive shaft is not worn.

Insert two rings of packing onto the shaft.

Bearing Temperature Familiarization

Touch the bearing housing to check normal operating temperature

Is there a sudden, rapid rise in operating temperature?

If temperature rise is detected

Remove the drive shaft and shaft bearings from the bearing housing
