100 Hourly / Yearly Maintenance
Change engine oil and filter.
Run engine to warm oil.
Park machine safely on level surface.
Lift hood.
Put drain pan under drain valve.
Remove drain cap and drain oil into drain pan. Allow oil to drain completely.
Remove dipstick.
Wipe dirt from around oil filter.
Place a drain pan or funnel under oil filter tray.
50 Hourly / Yearly Maintenance
Lubricating Pivot Points
Lubricate front axle pivot and axle spindles
38 and 42 Mowers: Lubricate two mower spindle grease fittings with two pumps of grease
48 and 54 Mowers: Lubricate three mower spindle grease fittings with two pumps of grease
Lubricating Front Axle
Lubricate grease fitting on each spindle with one or two pumps of general all-purpose grease
Turn wheels to distribute grease on spindles
Lubricate front axle center pivot grease fitting with one or two pumps of general all-purpose grease
Lubricate mower spindles, pivot points, and lift pedal
8 Hourly Maintenance
Change engine oil and filter
Run engine to warm oil
Park machine safely on level surface
Lift hood
Put drain pan under drain valve
Remove drain cap and drain oil into drain pan
Remove dipstick
Wipe dirt from around oil filter
Place a drain pan or funnel under oil filter tray
Air Cleaner Elements Maintenance
Park machine safely
Lift hood
Turn thumb screws 1/4 turn counterclockwise and lift cover to remove
Loosen air filter clamp by turning thumbscrew counterclockwise until clamp loosens. Carefully lift the filter element out of the air cleaner base
Remove the foam precleaner from the paper filter element. If the foam precleaner is dirty, wash precleaner in a solution of warm water and liquid detergent, rinse precleaner thoroughly. Squeeze out excess water in a dry cloth until precleaner is completely dry. Replace the precleaner if damaged or missing
Inspect paper filter element. Replace the filter element if damaged or dirty
Clean air cleaner base very carefully, preventing any dirt from falling into air intake tube
Install foam precleaner on paper filter element. Position air filter in air filter base and on air intake tube. Align air filter clamp on intake tube groove and tighten clamp by turning thumbscrew clockwise until secure
Install air cleaner cover on engine and turn thumbscrews 1/4 turn clockwise to secure
Bent Mower Blades Check
Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)
Raise mower deck to highest position to access blades.
Measure distance (A) between blade tip and flat ground surface.
Rotate blade 180° and measure distance between other blade tip and flat ground surface.
Install new blade if the difference between the two measurements is more than 3 mm (1/8 in.).
Repeat for all blades.
Sign off on the blade check
