Disconnect all power sources before servicing

Verify power disconnection from all sources

Clean the permanent filter if applicable

Replace the disposable filter if applicable

Was the filter replaced with the same type and size?

Turn on the furnace at the thermostat

Wait a few minutes for dust to settle

Check the burner flames for the following characteristics

Are the flames stable, quiet, soft and blue with slightly orange tips?

Are the flames extending directly outward from the burner ports without curling downward, floating or lifting off the ports?

Connect a manometer to the outlet tap at the gas valve before adjusting the pressure regulator.

Record the initial manifold pressure in inches of water column.

Is the manifold pressure within the acceptable range for natural gas (3.5 inches water column) or propane gas (10 inches water column)?

Adjust the pressure regulator to achieve the desired manifold pressure (3.5 inches water column for natural gas or 10 inches water column for propane gas).

Verify that the final manifold pressure does not vary more than plus or minus 3 inches water column from the target pressure.

Propane Gas Specific Instructions

Disconnect all power before servicing or installing the unit.

Check the following furnace components for proper working order

Was the ignitor handled with care, avoiding touching the ignitor body with bare fingers?

Was the ignitor protected from rough handling or vibration?

Describe any repairs or services performed

Ensure all other gas appliances are turned off

Ensure the heating cycle has been in operation for at least fifteen minutes

Record the time taken for the gas meter's cubic foot dial to make one complete revolution (in seconds)

Enter the calorific value of the gas being used (BTU per cubic foot)

Calculate the cubic feet of gas consumed per hour using the gas rate chart

Calculate the BTU input by multiplying the cubic feet of gas consumed per hour by the calorific value
