Record the time after the heating cycle has been in operation for at least fifteen minutes

Record the time (in seconds) for one complete revolution of the cubic foot dial on the gas meter

Enter the number of cubic feet of gas consumed per hour from the gas rate chart

Enter the calorific value of the gas (BTU per cubic foot)

Calculate and enter the BTU input by multiplying the cubic feet of gas consumed per hour by the calorific value

Turn on the furnace at the thermostat

Wait a few minutes for dislodged dust to settle

Check the burner flames for the following characteristics

Are the flames stable, quiet, soft and blue with slightly orange tips?

Do the flames extend directly outward from the burner ports without curling downward, floating or lifting off the ports?
