Pre-Start Up Check
Check the alignment of the pipes to the pump
Support pipes to prevent movement when pump flanges or union joints are disconnected
Verify proper coupling alignment
Fill Blackmer helical gear reducers with oil
Check the entire pumping system
Install vacuum and pressure gauges on the pump
Check the wiring of the motor
Briefly turn on the power to ensure the pump rotates in the correct direction
Pump Assembly
Pre-assembly Inspection
Inspect all component parts for wear or damage
Replace worn or damaged parts as required
Wash out the bearing/seal recess of the head
Remove any burrs or nicks from the rotor and shaft
Outboard Side Assembly
Position the pump cylinder based on rotation direction
Install a new head O-ring (72) in the groove in the head
Soak the head O-ring in 200°F (93°C) water for ease of installation
Vane Replacement
NOTICE: Maintenance shall be performed by qualified technicians only. Follow the appropriate procedures and warnings as presented in manual.
Disassembly
Remove the head assembly and all other parts on the outboard (non-driven) side of the pump.
Refer to the 'Pump Disassembly' Section for detailed instructions.
Vane Replacement
Turn the shaft by hand until a vane comes to the top (12 o'clock) position of the rotor.
Remove and replace the vane, ensuring the rounded edge is outward and relief grooves face the direction of rotation.
Rotate the shaft until the next rotor slot is in the top position, and replace the vane.
Continue this procedure until all new vanes are in place.
3 Monthly Ball Bearing / Motor Coupling Lubrication
Safety Notices
Ensure the pump is not running before starting lubrication
Check that grease relief fittings (76A) are not painted closed

Greasing Procedure
Remove the grease relief fittings (76A) from the bearing covers (27A)
Apply grease with a hand gun until grease begins to escape from the grease relief fitting port
Replace the grease relief fittings (76A)
Pump Disassembly
NOTICE: Follow all hazard warnings and instructions provided in the “maintenance” section of this manual.
NOTE: The numbers in parentheses following individual parts indicate reference numbers on the Pump Parts List.
Initial Preparation
Drain and flush the pump and system as required.
Inboard End Disassembly
Clean the pump shaft thoroughly, ensuring it is free of nicks and burrs.
Remove the inboard bearing cover components
Discard the inboard bearing cover gasket.
