Remove all sediment and dirt from the trap body

Immerse mechanism in approved cleaning fluid if required

Backflushing Stainless Steel Traps

Select the series of the trap for backflushing

Backflush with compressed air or water under pressure

Strainer Installation and Maintenance

Install a strainer ahead of the trap if there is an exceptional amount of dirt

Determine the frequency of strainer maintenance

Hold the lever assembly against the valve seat with the valve contacting its seat

Ensure the two fulcrum points are resting on the face of the seat

Are the guide pins central in the guide pin holes?

Is there equal side-to-side movement of the lever?

Bend the pins until they are centrally located

Ensure pins remain perpendicular to the guide pin plate

Check that the lever can drop until it rests on the guide pin hooks

Ensure the by-pass valve is closed before inspection

Is the by-pass valve steam tight?

Can the trap operate without the by-pass?

Remove the by-pass if the trap can operate without it

Ensure the by-pass valve remains closed after inspection

Record any issues or observations during the inspection

Ensure shut-off valve is in return line to isolate trap from return header

Observations When Test Valve is Open

Select the observation when the test valve is open

Ensure the steam trap is isolated from the system

Allow the steam trap to cool down before handling

Extract the old lever and guide pin assembly

Inspect the old lever for wear and tear
