9 Yearly R3, R4 - R5, R6 - R9 Auxiliary Cooling Fan Replacement
Fans
Parameter 05.04 Fan on-time counter indicates the running time of the cooling fan. Reset the counter after a fan replacement. See the firmware manual.
In a speed-controlled fan, the speed of the fan matches the cooling needs. This increases the life span of the fan.
Main fans are speed controlled. When the drive is stopped, the main fan runs at low speed until the drive cools down. IP21 (UL Type 1) frames R5..R9 and all IP55 (UL Type 12) frames have auxiliary fans that are not speed controlled and run all the time when the control unit is powered.
Replacement fans are available from the manufacturer. Do not use other than specified spare parts.

Electrical safety precautions
WARNING! Obey these instructions. If you ignore them, injury or death, or damage to the equipment can occur.
If you are not a qualified electrical professional, do not do installation or maintenance work.
Do these steps before you begin any installation or maintenance work.
Clearly identify the work location and equipment.
Disconnect all possible voltage sources. Make sure that re-connection is not possible. Lock out and tag out.
Protect any other energized parts in the work location against contact.
Take special precautions when close to bare conductors.
6 Yearly R4 V2 IP21 Auxiliary Cooling Fan Replacement
Warning: This procedure requires a qualified electrical professional. Do not attempt if you are not qualified.
Identify the work location and equipment.
All possible voltage sources disconnected and re-connection locked out and tagged out?
All dangerous external voltages from the control circuits disconnected?
Waited 5 minutes to let the intermediate circuit capacitors discharge?
All other energized parts in the work location protected against contact?
Special precautions taken when close to bare conductors?
Installation de-energized?
Voltage between the drive input power terminals (L1, L2, L3) and the grounding (PE) busbar is zero?
3 Yearly R1- R2 Auxiliary Cooling Fan Replacement
Warning: This procedure requires a qualified electrical professional. Do not attempt if you are not qualified.
Before starting, ensure all possible voltage sources are disconnected and the work location is clearly identified.
Voltage sources disconnected and work location identified?
Wait for 5 minutes to let the intermediate circuit capacitors discharge before you continue.
Waited for 5 minutes?
Measure that the installation is de-energized using a quality voltage tester.
Installation de-energized?
Install temporary grounding as required by the local regulations.
Temporary grounding installed?
1 Yearly Capacitors Check
Warning: This procedure requires trained personnel with PPE!
Capacitors: The intermediate DC circuit of the drive contains several electrolytic capacitors. Operating time, load, and surrounding air temperature have an effect on the life of the capacitors. Capacitor life can be extended by decreasing the surrounding air temperature. Capacitor failure is usually followed by damage to the unit and an input cable fuse failure, or a fault trip. If you think that any capacitors in the drive have failed, contact ABB.
Has the drive been powered in the last year?
If the drive has not been powered for a year or more, the capacitors must be reformed.
Enter the surrounding air temperature
Check capacitor reforming for spare modules and spare capacitors
Report any signs of capacitor failure
Sign off on the capacitor check
