Condensing Unit Leak Testing
Initial Leak Testing
Pressurize the system to a maximum of 150 psig (1136 kPa) with dry nitrogen
Is the system free of major leaks?
Detailed Leak Testing for A1 Refrigerants
Discharge the initial dry nitrogen charge and add refrigerant to raise the system pressure up to 10 psig (170 kPa)
Add dry nitrogen to increase the system pressure to a maximum of 150 psig (1136 kPa)
Use an electronic leak detector to check for leaks
Hold the pressure for a minimum of 12 hours
Recheck the system for leaks after 12 hours
2 Weekly Condensing Unit System Check
Compressor Pressure Check
Enter the compressor discharge pressure
Enter the compressor suction pressure
Are the pressures within the allowable design limits?
Refrigerant System Check
Check the liquid line sight glass and expansion valve operation
Is there an indication that the system is low on refrigerant?
Describe any leaks found in the system
Oil Level Check
Evaporator Superheat Check
Suction Pressure Measurement
Select the method to measure suction pressure
Enter the suction pressure at the bulb location
Temperature Measurement
Measure and enter the temperature of the suction line at the thermostatic expansion valve bulb location
Saturated Temperature Conversion
Convert the suction pressure to saturated evaporator temperature using a Pressure-Temperature chart
Superheat Calculation
Calculate the superheat by subtracting the saturated temperature from the actual suction line temperature
Condensing Unit Start-Up Check
Pre-Start Checks
Check that all electrical and refrigeration connections are tight
Check compressor crankcase oil level (if equipped with sight glass). It should be from 1/8 to 1/2 full in the sight glass.
Ensure compressor shipping spacers or hold down nut are properly in place
Check that the compressor discharge and suction shut-off valves are open
Control and Safety Adjustments
Ensure that the high and low pressure controls, pressure regulating valves, oil pressure safety controls, Compressor Time Delay and any other safety controls are adjusted properly
Is the room thermostat set for normal operation? Adjust if required.
Motor and Fan Checks
6 Monthly Condensing Unit Check
Pre-Inspection Safety
Disconnect and lock off the main power supply
Electrical System Inspection
Check electrical components and tighten any loose connections
Check all wiring and electrical insulators
Check contactors for proper operation and contact point wear
Fan and Motor Inspection
Check that fan motors are operational
Ensure fan blades are tight
