Is the valve fully out of service?

Open the valve about five turns to flush debris

Describe any systematic problems causing disc failure

Contact Kennedy Valve or an authorized distributor to obtain necessary parts

Apply torque for valves 3” and smaller (ft-lbs)

Apply torque for valves 4” and larger (ft-lbs)

Remove the nuts retaining the stuffing box [item R4]

Separate the stuffing box [item R5] and the cover [item R11]

Wipe all grit and dirt from the bore of the stuffing box and stem

Remove the packing gland fasteners [item R8]

Remove the cover fasteners [item R6]

Rotate the hand wheel in 'valve closing direction' to disengage yoke nut threads from stem threads

Lift the cover assembly off the stem

Packing Removal and Replacement

Remove and discard the old packing [item R11] and packing gland [item R10]

Position the new packing gland into the packing well of the cover [item R7]
