Initial 1 Day Condensing Unit Compressor Check
Pre-Start Checks
Ensure a qualified refrigeration mechanic is present
Verify all installations are complete
Initial Start-Up Monitoring
Record initial compressor pressure
Record initial compressor temperature
Is the compressor operating within normal parameters?
First Day Performance Monitoring
Monitor performance of moving components
6 Monthly Condensing Unit Check
Pre-inspection Safety
Disconnect and lock off the main power supply
Electrical System Inspection
Check electrical components and tighten any loose connections
Check all wiring and electrical insulators
Check contactors for proper operation and contact point wear
Fan and Motor Inspection
Are fan motors operational?
Ensure fan blades are tight
Condensing Unit Start-Up Check
IMPORTANT START-UP NOTE
Confirm that a qualified refrigeration mechanic is present for the start-up
Check that all electrical and refrigeration connections are tight
Check compressor crankcase oil level (if equipped with sight glass)
Ensure compressor components are properly in place
Check that the compressor valves are open
Ensure all pressure and safety controls are adjusted properly
Is the room thermostat set for normal operation?
Check motors, fans, and pump bearings
Evaporator Superheat Check
Suction Pressure Measurement
Select the method to measure suction pressure
Enter the suction pressure at the bulb location
Measure the temperature of the suction line at the thermostatic expansion valve bulb location
Convert the suction pressure to saturated evaporator temperature using a Pressure-Temperature chart
Calculate the actual superheat at the evaporator by subtracting the saturated temperature from the actual suction line temperature
Superheat Evaluation
Is the superheat within the range of 6 to 10 °F (3.4 to 5.6 °C) for systems with a 10 °F (5.6 °C) design TD?
Is the superheat within the range of 12 to 15 °F (6.7 to 8.4 °C) for systems with a higher operating TD?
Compressor Superheat Check
Compressor Suction Superheat Measurement
Measure the suction pressure at the suction service valve of the compressor
Measure the suction temperature of the suction line about 6 inches (15 cm) back from the compressor suction valve using an accurate thermometer.
Calculate the actual superheat at the compressor
Superheat Evaluation
Is the suction superheat within the range of 20 to 45 °F (11.2 to 25.2 °C)?
Describe any adjustments made to the suction superheat
System Balancing Notes
Ensure the suction superheat is as low as practical for maximum system capacity.
