1 Yearly Compressor/Motor Inspection

Check mark

- Shut down the chiller once each year to check the items

Check mark

- Compressor/Motor p.103:

Check mark

1. Motor continuity

Check mark

2. Motor meg test

Check mark

3. Check motor terminals

Check mark

4. Inspect motor terminal board

Check mark

5. Check inlet guide vanes (IGV) for abnormalities;

3 Yearly Evaporator Maintenance

Check mark

Clean evaporator

Check mark

Is the evaporator part of a closed circuit?

Check mark

If the evaporator is part of a closed circuit, it may not accumulate appreciable amounts of scale or sludge.

Check mark

Is cleaning every three years sufficient?

Check mark

However, periodic inspection and cleaning is recommended on open evaporator systems, such as air washers.

1 Yearly Chiller Leak Test

Check mark

WARNING: Explosion Hazard! Never use an open flame to detect gas leaks. Use a leak test solution for leak testing.

Check mark

WARNING: Hazardous Pressures! If a heat source is required to raise the tank pressure during removal of refrigerant from cylinders, use only warm water or heat blankets to raise the tank temperature. Do not exceed a temperature of 150°F. Do not under any circumstances apply direct flame to any portion of the cylinder.

Check mark

Important: If leak testing is required, contact a Trane Service Agency;

Check mark

Shut down the chiller

Check mark

Check purge times and unit performance logs

Check mark

Review oil analysis

Check mark

Submit refrigerant sample for analysis if required

Check mark

Inspect unit for any signs of refrigerant or oil leakage

Check mark

Check unit for any loose screws on flange, volutes, or casing

Initial 1000 Hours/6 Months Chiller Oil Replacement

Check mark

NOTICE: Equipment Damage! Mixing refrigerants or oils could result in equipment damage including bearing damage, introduction of acids into the chiller, or continuous purge pump-out in high-head/high ambient applications.

Check mark

CenTraVac chillers are manufactured with different refrigerant/oil systems: 1) chillers using R-123 refrigerant and OIL00022 compressor oil, and 2) chillers using R-514A refrigerant and OIL00334/OIL00335 compressor oil.

Check mark

Verify proper refrigerant and oil for your chiller and do NOT mix refrigerants or oils!

Check mark

Important: Verify proper refrigerant and compressor oil for your chiller before proceeding!

Check mark

After the first six months of accumulated operation or after 1000 hours operation—whichever comes first—it is recommended to change the oil and filter.

Check mark

After this oil change, it is recommended to subscribe to the Trane annual oil analysis program rather than automatically change the oil as part of scheduled maintenance.

Check mark

Change the oil only if indicated by the oil analysis. Using an oil analysis program will reduce the chiller’s overall lifetime waste oil generation and minimize refrigerant emissions.

Check mark

The analysis determines system moisture content, acid level, and wear metal content of the oil, and can be used as a diagnostic tool. The oil analysis should be performed by a qualified laboratory that is experienced in refrigerant and oil chemistry and in the servicing of Trane® centrifugal chillers.

Check mark

In conjunction with other diagnostics performed by a qualified service technician, oil analyses can provide valuable information on the performance of the chiller to help minimize operating and maintenance costs and maximize its operating life. A valve is installed next to the oil filter for the purpose of obtaining oil samples.

3 Yearly Tubes Maintenance

Check mark

Use a non-destructive tube test to inspect the condenser and evaporator tubes

Check mark

Tube test performed on condenser?

Check mark

Tube test performed on evaporator?

Check mark

It may be desirable to perform tube tests on these components at more frequent intervals depending upon chiller application

Check mark

This is especially true of critical process equipment

Check mark

Ask your Sales account manager for a copy of engineering bulletin (CTV-PRB024*-EN) for clarification of the role of eddy current testing in chiller maintenance by providing information about eddy current technology and heat exchanger tubing
