Seat and Disc Replacement

Check mark

Examine the seat and disc sealing surfaces for nicks or other signs of damage by pipeline debris

Check mark

If sealing surfaces are damaged, they must be replaced

Check mark

Remove the seat ring (15) from the body with a socket wrench

Check mark

Clean the body threads of old sealing compound using a wire brush

Check mark

Apply new sealing compound (Copaltite or equal) sparingly to the threads and shoulder of the new seat ring

Check mark

Let stand until tacky before assembling into the pilot body

Check mark

When seat or disc is replaced, the sealing surfaces must be lapped

Check mark

Lap sparingly using 500 grit lapping compound and light pressure. Heavy grinding may cause galling, wide sealing surfaces and a grooved disc, all of which tend to produce leakage

Check mark

After the sealing surfaces are lapped in, disassemble and clean all parts
