Bellows Seal Replacement

Thermostat Replacement

Warning: Do not loosen the bolts on the diaphragm chamber of the Type T14 Temperature Pilot or attempt to dismantle the thermostat element.

Thermostat bulbs of original and replacement elements cooled below the low end of their temperature range

Temperature adjusting wheel backed off to within a turn or two of the barrel nut

Temperature diaphragm plate remains seated in correct alignment on balls and all compression on bellows stem assembly released

Diaphragm nuts removed and thermostat assembly detached from pilot

Shipping plate detached from replacement thermostat

Bonnet set screw and stem set screw loosened if pilot is blocked closed by temperature stem

Cowl assembly rotated upward to raise barrel until steam flows

Seat and Disc Replacement

Examine the seat and disc sealing surfaces for nicks or other signs of damage by pipeline debris

If sealing surfaces are damaged, they must be replaced

Upload a photo of the damaged sealing surfaces

Remove the seat ring (15) from the body with a socket wrench

Check mark

Describe the condition of the body threads

Check mark

Clean the body threads of old sealing compound using a wire brush

Check mark

Apply new sealing compound (Copaltite or equal) sparingly to the threads and shoulder of the new seat ring

Let stand until tacky before assembling into the pilot body

Check mark

Lap sparingly using 500 grit lapping compound and light pressure
