Initial Temperature Pilot Inspection
Under normal conditions, complete dismantling at regular intervals is not recommended. A valve kept relatively free of dirt will function for years with minimum attention.
Inspect for dirt collected at bleedport 4A
Inspect restriction elbow 5A for dirt collection
Inspect all joints for leakage
Check if all bolts are tight
Is there any persistent leak?
Sign off on the inspection
Bellows Seal Replacement
Warning: Ensure the steam is turned off before starting the procedure.
Steam blowing out around temperature stem at bonnet?
Upload a photo of the defective bellows seal
Enter the part number of the new bellows seal
Set screw and bonnet bolts removed?
Cowl assembly and bonnet removed from body?
Bellows assembly removed from bonnet using 5/8'' deep socket wrench?
New bellows installed following instructions for replacing seat rings?
Bellows stem fits into coupling on temperature stem and set screw tightened?
Thermostat Replacement
Warning: Do not loosen the bolts on the diaphragm chamber of the Type T14 Temperature Pilot or attempt to dismantle the thermostat element.
Thermostat bulbs of original and replacement elements cooled below the low end of their temperature range
Temperature adjusting wheel backed off to within a turn or two of the barrel nut
Temperature diaphragm plate remains seated in correct alignment on balls and all compression on bellows stem assembly released
Diaphragm nuts removed and thermostat assembly detached from pilot
Shipping plate detached from replacement thermostat
Cowl assembly does not turn in bonnet when removing diaphragm nuts
Replacement thermostat installed on pilot and shipping plate installed on original thermostat
Sign off on the thermostat replacement
Temperature Pilot Adjustment
T14 PILOT SETTING
Pilot connected to main valve
Thermostat assembly removed
Steel flat bar clamped to the cowl
Pressure plate flush with the diaphragm seat on cowl
Bleedport bend disconnected
Inlet stop valve cracked until steam issues from tee fitting on pilot outlet
Bonnet set screw and stem set screw loosened if pilot is blocked closed by temperature stem
Cowl assembly rotated upward to raise barrel until steam flows
Seat and Disc Replacement
Examine the seat and disc sealing surfaces for nicks or other signs of damage by pipeline debris
If sealing surfaces are damaged, they must be replaced
Upload a photo of the damaged sealing surfaces
Remove the seat ring (15) from the body with a socket wrench
Describe the condition of the body threads
Clean the body threads of old sealing compound using a wire brush
Apply new sealing compound (Copaltite or equal) sparingly to the threads and shoulder of the new seat ring
Let stand until tacky before assembling into the pilot body
Lap sparingly using 500 grit lapping compound and light pressure
