Backwash the filter to protect pool equipment from freezing temperatures

Open the manual air bleeder on the closure

Remove the appropriate drain plug

Leave the drain plug out to allow slow drainage

Wash the exterior of the filter with mild detergent and water

Ensure no solvents are used during cleaning

Remove sand drain from the bottom of the filter

Flush the filter with a garden hose

Use Pentair Water Pool and Spa® Sand Vacuum P/N 542090 if necessary

Record the initial flow rate (GPM) with a clean filter

Record the current flow rate (GPM)

Calculate the flow rate decrease (%)

Has the flow rate decreased by 30% or more?

Record the initial filter gauge reading (PSI)

Record the current filter gauge reading (PSI)

Has the filter gauge reading increased by 10 PSI or more?

Stand clear of the filter and start pump

Backwash filter duration (minutes)

Is an approved cleaner available?
