Inspect shaft sleeves for excessive wear

Ensure no scratches on sleeve surface during removal

Replace shaft sleeve O-ring (130) at each disassembly

Has the pump capacity fallen off due to wear on the impeller and casing ring?

Replace the casing ring if wear is detected

Measure the inside diameter of the casing ring

Examine impeller passages for issues

Inspect mating parts with relative motion, such as casing rings

Tighten gland bolts (17B) as required to limit leakage after pump is running

Ensure the gland enters the box square to the shaft to exert uniform pressure around the packing

Monitor packing (13) for excessive leakage during operation

Check packing rings (13) for issues

Install 3 rings of packing (13)

Is the lantern ring (29) furnished?

Install packing based on lantern ring availability

Inspect lapped surfaces for damage

Are the lapped surfaces free from defects?

If lapped surfaces are damaged, was the entire seal replaced?

Monitor for seal leakage during operation

Was there any seal leakage indicating damage?

Were all seal parts replaced after disassembly?

Clean all metal parts with a solvent

Use a bristle brush to remove tightly adhering deposits

Use a fiber scraper to remove gasket and shellac from casing flanges

Blow dry with clean dry compressed air

Cleaning — Mechanical Seal Parts

Clean seal parts using a mild soap solution only

Run only with finger to remove dirt

Rinse with clear water and dry with mild air stream
