Measure the rotor crest-to-crest diameter

Enter the standard crest-to-crest diameter value for comparison

Is the measured diameter within 0.010” (.25mm) of the standard value and free of deep nicks, gouges or other surface defects?

Is the crest-to-crest diameter between 0.011” (.28mm) and 0.050” (1.3mm) under the standard value?

Check the following conditions for rotor renewal by chrome plating

Send rotor to Moyno for replating if conditions are met

Routine Adjustment and Lubrication

Adjust the packing as necessary

Touch the bearing housing to check for normal operating temperature

Is there a sudden, rapid rise in operating temperature?

Remove the drive shaft and shaft bearings from the bearing housing if temperature rise is detected

Select the maintenance action for the shaft bearings

Rotate the bearings slowly and check for smoothness and even action.

Is there any doubt concerning the complete serviceability of the bearings?

Inspect the drive shaft for defects

Does the drive shaft need replacement?

Remove the gland nuts and packing gland from the stuffing box.

Use packing extractors to remove the first two packing rings, the lantern rings, and the last two packing rings.

Inspect the surface of the drive shaft for excessive wear or grooves.

Is the drive shaft worn or grooved?

Lubricate the 4 new packing rings with a good grade of packing grease if the drive shaft is not worn.

Lubricate the packing rings during assembly with FGG 2 Grease (Dubois Chemical).

Adjust gland nuts for a leakage rate of 1 to 2 drops per second

Is the leakage rate within 1 to 2 drops per second after 15 minutes?

Is there excessive leakage from the stuffing box after 15 minutes?

Tighten the gland nuts until a desired leakage rate is obtained

Is zero leakage required and cannot be tolerated?

Consult your Moyno authorized service representative if zero leakage is required
