Rotate the bearings slowly and check for smoothness and even action.

Is there any doubt concerning the complete serviceability of the bearings?

Inspect the drive shaft for defects

Does the drive shaft need replacement?

Measure the rotor crest-to-crest diameter

Enter the standard crest-to-crest diameter value for comparison

Is the measured diameter within 0.010” (.25mm) of the standard value and free of deep nicks, gouges, or other surface defects?

Is the crest-to-crest value between 0.011” (.28mm) and 0.050” (1.3mm) under the standard value?

Rotor Replacement and Renewal Criteria

Check the following conditions for rotor renewal by chrome plating

Routine Adjustment and Lubrication

Adjust the packing as necessary

Bearing Temperature Familiarization

Touch the bearing housing to become familiar with the normal operating temperature

Is there a sudden, rapid rise in operating temperature?

If temperature rise is detected

Remove the drive shaft and shaft bearings from the bearing housing

Remove the gland nuts and packing gland from the stuffing box.

Use packing extractors to remove the first two packing rings, the lantern rings, and the last two packing rings.

Inspect the surface of the drive shaft for excessive wear or grooves.

Is the drive shaft worn or grooved?

If the drive shaft is not worn, lubricate the 4 new packing rings with packing grease.

Insert two rings of packing, the lantern ring halves, and the remaining two packing rings onto the shaft.

Adjust gland nuts for a leakage rate of 1 to 2 drops per second

Has the packing seated and adjusted to the operating temperature after 10 to 15 minutes?

Is there excessive leakage from the stuffing box after 15 minutes of operation?

Tighten the gland nuts until a desired leakage rate is obtained

Is zero packing leakage required?

Consult with Moyno authorized service representative if zero leakage is required
