As necessary Maintenance
Adjust carburetor
Determine need for adjustment by extending cutting lines to 6 to 8 inches (152 to 203 mm). Start and warm up engine.
Operate engine at full throttle for at least 5 minutes.
Operate throttle trigger through full carburetor linkage travel. In idle position, throttle shaft must contact idle regulating screw (B). In full throttle position, control lever (C) must contact high speed stop (D).
Gently close mixture regulating screw (A) by turning clockwise until seated.
Open regulating screw (A) one turn counterclockwise. Operate at full throttle for at least 5 minutes (trim grass if possible).
At idle position, slowly turn regulating screw clockwise until engine starts to falter. Note screw slot position. Turn screw counterclockwise until engine falters. Note screw position. Now turn back clockwise halfway between two noted positions.
Test adjustment by fully opening throttle. If engine falters, turn mixture regulating screw counterclockwise slightly for smoother acceleration.
Adjust idle regulating screw (B) until cutting head stops rotating when engine is at idle speed. Turn screw counter- clockwise to reduce speed.
25 Hourly Maintenance
Clean air filter.
1. Clean air filter every 25 hours or as necessary if operated in dusty or dirty conditions.
2. Remove cover (A) and outer (B), middle (C), and inner (D) elements.
3. Clean all elements in non-flammable solvent or strong solution of water in household detergent.
4. Clean middle element (C) by squeezing dry. Cover ends of element with 2-cycle engine oil, then knead to saturate with oil. Squeeze out excess.
5. Clean air cleaner body and reassemble.
Clean and gap spark plug.
1. Disconnect spark plug cable (A) and remove spark plug (B).
2. Carefully scrape or wire brush carbon deposits from spark plug.
