12000 Km / 7500 Mi Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Function Check
Warning: When you are doing this inspection, the vehicle could move suddenly. If the vehicle moves, you or others could be injured.
Before starting this check, be sure there is enough room around the vehicle. It should be parked on a level surface.
Parking brake applied
Be ready to apply the regular brake immediately if the vehicle begins to move.
Ignition turned on without starting the engine
Shift lever does not move out of P (Park) without applying the regular brake
If the shift lever moves out of P (Park), contact your dealer for service.
Sign off on the shift lock control function check
12000 Km / 7500 Mi Engine Air Cleaner/Filter Inspection
Engine Compartment Overview -> 242 for the location of the engine air cleaner/filter.
Maintenance Schedule -> 332 for intervals on changing and inspecting the engine air cleaner/filter.
Engine air cleaner/filter housing and nearby components are free of dirt and debris.
Engine air cleaner/filter is not damaged.
Warning: Do not clean the engine air cleaner/filter or components with water or compressed air.
Open the hood. See Hood -> 241.
Locate the air filter housing on the front passenger side of the engine compartment. See Engine Compartment Overview -> 242.
Outlet duct disconnected by loosening the air duct clamp (1).
Electrical connector (2) disconnected.
12000 Km / 7500 Mi Park Brake / Mechanism Check
Warning: When you are doing this check, the vehicle could begin to move. You or others could be injured and property could be damaged. Make sure there is room in front of the vehicle in case it begins to roll. Be ready to apply the regular brake at once should the vehicle begin to move.
Park on a fairly steep hill, with the vehicle facing downhill. Keeping your foot on the regular brake, set the parking brake.
Parking brake's holding ability check: With the engine running and the transmission in N (Neutral), slowly remove foot pressure from the regular brake pedal. Do this until the vehicle is held by the parking brake only.
P (Park) mechanism's holding ability check: With the engine running, shift to P (Park). Then release the parking brake followed by the regular brake.
Contact your dealer if service is required.
12000 Km / 7500 Mi Starter Switch Check
Warning: When you are doing this inspection, the vehicle could move suddenly. If the vehicle moves, you or others could be injured.
Before starting this check, be sure there is enough room around the vehicle.

Do not use the accelerator pedal, and be ready to turn off the engine immediately if it starts.
Gear in which the engine was started
Did the vehicle start in any other position than P (Park) or N (Neutral)?
If the vehicle starts in any other position, contact your dealer for service.
Sign off on the starter switch check
12000 Km / 7500 Mi Vehicle Maintenance
Rotate the tires, if recommended for the vehicle, and perform the following services. See Tire Rotation -> 292.
Check engine oil level and oil life percentage. If needed, change engine oil and filter, and reset oil life system. See Engine Oil -> 243 and Engine Oil Life System -> 246.
Check engine coolant level. See Engine Coolant -> 249.
Visually check for fluid leaks.
Inspect brake system. See Exterior Care -> 321.
Visually inspect steering, suspension, and chassis components for damaged, loose, or missing parts or signs of wear. See Exterior Care -> 321.
Check restraint system components. See Safety System Check -> 68.
Visually inspect fuel system for damage or leaks.
Visually inspect exhaust system and nearby heat shields for loose or damaged parts.
