Clean the load chain with a non-acid or non-caustic type solvent.

Slack the chain and inspect each link for nicks, gouges, twisted links, and excessive wear or stretching.

Is the chain worn beyond serviceable limits?

Check gage lengths as indicated in Figure 15.

Is the chain worn beyond the indicated length, nicked, gouged, or twisted?

Ensure the chain is clean, free of twists, and pulled taut before measuring.

Examine the hoist’s chain guides, hook blocks, and liftwheel for wear.

Check for visible damage on the hook

Does the hook allow the latch to not engage the tip?

Inspect the latch for damage or bending

Does the latch operate properly with sufficient spring pressure?

Load Sustaining Parts Inspection

Inspect other load sustaining parts for damage

Ensure the area is clean and free from obstructions

Gather necessary materials: Lubriplate Bar and Chain Oil 10-R or equivalent

Check if the load chain is clean before lubrication

Apply Lubriplate Bar and Chain Oil 10-R to the load chain until natural run-off and full coverage is achieved

Was the chain lubricated several times if operating under hot and dirty conditions?

Confirm that motor oils are not used as a lubricant

Handle and dispose of lubricants as directed in material safety data sheets and in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Ensure all lubricants used are as specified for the Lodestar Hoist.

Verify that the ProtectorTM is lubricated with Century Lubricants HB-11, #3 grease.

Has the ProtectorTM been degreased or disassembled?

If gears are removed, wipe excess grease from ProtectorTM surfaces and degrease remaining gears and housings.

Add 7 oz. of Century Lubricants HB-11, #3 grease to gears and housing upon reassembly.

Check for external evidence of issues

Control functions for proper operation

Load chain for proper reeving and twists

Operation of the control station

Suspension lug or hook for excess free play or rotation

Loose end link, loose end screw and dead end block on double reeved units
